On March 6th, 2002, the Supreme Court issued its judgement on the case of criminal contempt of court by Arundhati Roy. On this page, we’ve provided some background on the issue, appeals for action issued before March 6th, analysis of the issue, and media coverage of the same.
Appeal for action and background of the case:
The document titled Arundhati Roy & Criminal Contempt of the Supreme Court of India provides a good background of the contempt case: the events that led to the filing of the first criminal contempt case against Prashant Bhushan, Medha Patkar, and Arundhati Roy; the subsequent dropping of charges against Prashant Bhushan and Medha Patkar; and the filing of a second criminal contempt case against Arundhati Roy.
However, this is not the first time that the Supreme Court acted in this manner. Earlier in 1999, it took offense with Arundhati Roy’s essay The Greater Common Good and also with the statements of the NBA and deliberated for a while whether to charge them with a contempt of court. Arunthati’s dubious role is revealed in many aspects:
1. She has been making money out of Indian adversities. The more she meets suh anti-nationals, she get more stuff to sell!
2. She does not care for the victims of terror, terrorism, jihadi, Maoisim, etc., but worry about the perpetrators of such crimes, as it does not fetch money from the sponsors. Thus, it is clear that the sponsors have been also anti-Indians.
3. She does not bother abut the Hindus killed, raped and diven out of Kashmir.
4. In fact, she never voiced about them. Perhaps, her type of “Human rights” works only with Maoists, jihadis and others but not for Hindus!
5. Even during the anti-India seminar on thursday, when the Pundits / Hindus pointed out, she brushed away with a single comment.
6. Thus, it is evident that she has been promoted by the Jihadi-americans, as when every time, some important Americal leader visits India, immediately, she comes out and do such gimmicks.
7. as she has been powerful, rich and influential, she has to be controlled, as otherwise, she might blackmail India.
8. As the Supreme court stood firm in checking her in 2002, now also, the judiciary should be strict without budging from the maniulations of the political masters.
9. Congress should not politicize the issue that BJP has been raising the issue and therefore, the process should be delayed and so on.
In fact, Indians should take note of all parties, groups and others even today without any nationalism etc.

Following is the text of the statement emailed by Ms Roy to Indian newspapers and TV channels.
“I write this from Srinagar, Kashmir. This morning’s papers say that I may be arrested on charges of sedition for what I have said at recent public meetings on Kashmir. I said what millions of people here say every day. I said what I, as well as other commentators have written and said for years. Anybody who cares to read the transcripts of my speeches will see that they were fundamentally a call for justice. I spoke about justice for the people of Kashmir who live under one of the most brutal military occupations in the world; for Kashmiri Pandits who live out the tragedy of having been driven out of their homeland; for Dalit soldiers killed in Kashmir whose graves I visited on garbage heaps in their villages in Cuddalore; for the Indian poor who pay the price of this occupation in material ways and who are now learning to live in the terror of what is becoming a police state.
“Yesterday I traveled to Shopian, the apple-town in South Kashmir which had remained closed for 47 days last year in protest against the brutal rape and murder of Asiya and Nilofer, the young women whose bodies were found in a shallow stream near their homes and whose murderers have still not been brought to justice. I met Shakeel, who is Nilofer’s husband and Asiya’s brother. We sat in a circle of people crazed with grief and anger who had lost hope that they would ever get ‘insaaf’ —justice — from India, and now believed that Azadi — freedom — was their only hope. I met young stone pelters who had been shot through their eyes. I traveled with a young man who told me how three of his friends, teenagers in Anantnag district, had been taken into custody and had their finger-nails pulled out as punishment for throwing stones.
“In the papers some have accused me of giving ‘hate-speeches’, of wanting India to break up. On the contrary, what I say comes from love and pride. It comes from not wanting people to be killed, raped, imprisoned or have their finger-nails pulled out in order to force them to say they are Indians. It comes from wanting to live in a society that is striving to be a just one. Pity the nation that has to silence its writers for speaking their minds. Pity the nation that needs to jail those who ask for justice, while communal killers, mass murderers, corporate scamsters, looters, rapists, and those who prey on the poorest of the poor, roam free”.

It is pity that as a woman, she could not think of Hindu women, who suffered heavily during the last 300 years at the hands of heinous Muslim rulers.
As she has been blind about the atrocities inflicted on the Hindus, it is clear that she has no morality.
She records proudly or cunningly, “I met Shakeel, who is Nilofer’s husband and Asiya’s brother”, very good indeed, but she could not feel and experience the sufferings of the Hindus in the same way!
Yet she talks about human rights, police state, freedom of expression and so many things!
And she would be showered with more awards!
So we Indians have to conclude, the more Hindus you kill, the more you would be recognized, given awards and so on!

Here is some more bad news for the organisers of the seminar on Kashmir’s ‘azaadi’ and the most prominent participants – Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani and author-turned-activist Arundhati Roy. A young activist has filed a complaint at the Tilak Marg police station, accusing Geelani, Arundhati and the organiser of the seminar SAR Geelani of showing disrespect to the national flag.

He has alleged that the trio provoked some people to tear the tricolour. “The speeches made by Hurriyat leader Geelani and Arundhati Roy provoked some anti-national elements present at the seminar to tear the national tricolour. It is an abject disrespect to our national symbol,” said Binay Singh founder of Youth United for Vibrant Action (YUVA).
“While Geelani is spreading his secessionist agenda, Arundhati is using her pen to spread terror among Indians. The government must take proper action against them,” said Singh.The police officers are still in a dilemma to register a FIR against Roy and Geelani. Senior officials remained silent on the issue.
But Arundhati continued denying allegation saying that she didn’t say anything new and she remained on her statement.
The seminar was conducted by SAR Geelani in the LTG auditorium in Mandi House area of Delhi last week. Separatist from North-East India, Punjab and South India were invited in the seminar.

Now Government has decided not to file any case against them, as understood from today’s (29-10-2010) news!
The Indian flags have been burned many times and Pakistan flags hoisted in J & K, Assam, Orissa and other places by the Muslims.
But, no action was taken, generally, they would be arrested in the morning and released in the evening.
Thus, in reality, as Hindus have been the worst sufferers in all aspects, in this matter also, action has been taken only against the leaving these taitors.

Chandigarh, Oct 27 (IANS) The All-India Anti-Terrorist Front (AIATF) has filed a complaint with Punjab police chief demanding registration of a sedition case against Booker Prize winner writer Arundhati Roy.
The AIATF has raised objections over Arundhati’s speech during a public meeting at Jalandhar in Punjab Oct 17.
‘This public meeting was organised by Democratic Front against Operation Green Hunt on Oct 17. Arundhati made inflammatory speeches aimed at disturbing the tranquillity of Punjab and to lead its people to subvert the government of India,’ said an official spokesperson of the AIATF here Wednesday.
He added: ‘In her speech, Arundhati supported the naxalites (Maoists) and said that the battle waged by them is a necessity. She said that no one has the right to ask tribals and Maoists to be non-violent as every one had the right to choose the mode of protest against oppression.’
According to the AIATF, which is headed by Maninderjit Singh Bitta, Arundhati named Manipur, Nagaland, Punjab, Kashmir and some other places where the army and police had been used to suppress armed struggles.
Arundhati is already facing the heat over here recent controversial remarks on Kashmir earlier this month. On this issue, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanded her arrest and said that the language used by her was objectionable and amounted to attack on the country’s integrity.

Viduthalai Chiruththaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan has strongly condemned what he termed the Central government’s attempts to stifle the voice of writer and activist Arundhati Roy for her stand on Kashmir.
‘Most want independence’
“It is a shame that the Congress government is doing this to satisfy the Bharatiya Janata Party,” Mr. Thirumavalavan said in a statement. He noted that it was a well-known fact that most of the people of Kashmir demanded independence.
Their agitation intensified only after the Shopian incident in which women were brutally raped and murdered. “I was part of the all-party delegation which visited Kashmir under the leadership of the Home Minister. Many Kashmiris openly demanded ‘freedom from the Indian occupation’ and declared it before our delegation,” he said.
Omar’s remark
Even the Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recently remarked that the State had only acceded to, and not merged with the Indian Union, he pointed out.
Mr. Thirumavalavan recalled his efforts to push for greater autonomy for the people of Kashmir and immediate repeal of the ‘Armed Forces Special Powers Act’ during the two meetings with United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Home Minister P. Chidambaram.
Timely intervention
“I have read the reported speech and the statement issued by Ms. Arundhati Roy. I find nothing offensive or seditious in it. It is only an echo of the aspirations of the Kashmir people and the democratic intellectuals of our country. It shows only the democratic spirit of a public intellectual. I appreciate Ms. Roy for her timely intervention in breaking the icy silence on Kashmir problem,” he added.
While pledging the support of the VCK for Ms. Roy, he also went on to invite all the democratic forces and intellectuals of the nation to stand with her in her fight for freedom of expression.

In fact, much of the postings have been lost and it raises an important question – how long our blogs would be available in the net? As we spent hours together in gathering materials and of course monety also, what would be the position, if in a day all postings are removed or disappeared?

Last time, just after her so-called “azadi speech” or “seditious speech” in August 2008, immediately, the jihadis were so impressed, influenced and induced that they carried out the Mumbai attack immediately in the next month – September 2008!
